White Tulip

The idea for a white tulip came, as strange as it can seem, from looking at two white horses in La Prade, France. Their skin was shining in the sun all shades of white.

Wakefield Tulip

This stripy violet tulip was given to me on the day of their competition by the English tulip society. The mother tulip was just violet, adding a virus made it so beautifully striped. When home, the tulip was already very open and I painted it lying on a table.

Van Huysum Tulip, dressed in leaves

17th century master Jan van Huysum is one of my favorite painters. For a project in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, Netherlands, I took one tulip from this master’s Flower Bouquet and painted it in a big format and added leaves and a snail to it.
